Troop 1 Parents Meeting Monday June 2, 2003 PRESENT: Dave Berns, Ken Boss, Anne Cook, Jamie
Cook, Al Degenhardt, Mary Euritt, Dana Jenson, Greg Kent, Chris Klaren, and
Lisa Musgrave OLD BUSINESS: 1) Review/approve previous
meeting minutes the minutes were approved. 2) Treasure's report After
the final summer camp payment, the troop has about $100 in the general fund,
with another $1000 in the scouts individual accounts. Another $260 is due to the troop for
summer camp payments, leaving the general fund with and expected balance of
$360. 3) Review activities for
last month: 3.a) Rank Advancements Kyle
Potter received his Star rank last month Congratulations Kyle! Several more scouts will be ready for Star
in a few months. 3.b) Troop service - St.
Eds Spring Carnival, May 14. Several
scouts manned the water balloon launch at the carnival. It was reported that a wet and wild time
was had by all. 3.c) Yard work fundraiser
Many of the Troop 1 scouts participated in a yard cleanup at Als on May 21. Al was pleased with the effort and
results, benefiting the yard and the troop treasury. The scouts enjoyed the pyrotechnic effects
and cookout following the hard work. Thanks
Al! 4) Review scheduled
activities for current month: 4.a) Jamboree Contingent
Troop Meeting at WSR June 11 Scouts, and if possible a parent of the scouts,
attending the 2005 National Jamboree should plan to attend the informational
meeting at Winnebago Scout Reservation in Marble Rock, Iowa on June 11 at
6:00-8:30 PM. Contact Ken Boss, Chris
Klaren or Steve Murphy if you would like to carpool the one hour trip as they
are planning to drive and will have room available. 4.b) Troops 1 and 144
Get-Together The McFarlane Park Campout scheduled for June 13-15 has been
scaled back due to a conflict with other notable activities during the
weekend. Instead, Al will get with
Troop 144 to see if Sunday June 15 at 6:30 PM would work for them. The purpose of this outing is to get the scouts
and adults from the two troops together before they spend the week at summer
camp together. Activities discussed
were volleyball and a cookout at Miller Park. 4.c) Pop can fundraiser
June 18 & 21 To raise money for needed camping equipment, scouts will
distribute fliers in the Ridgeway Kimball Prospect area on Wednesday June
18 asking for donations of refundable bottles and cans. The troop will then canvass the area on
Saturday June 21 to pick up the containers and later take them to a
redemption center. Dana will also have
a notice placed in the church bulletin. 4.d) Summer Camp June 29 -
July 5. We are still on track for summer camp. Al handed out medical forms that will need updating before the
scouts and adults leave for camp. Additional
details will be forthcoming in the next several weeks. 5) Summer campouts &
activities, July & August This is still up in the air, but some of the
activities mentioned include another paintball outing, a canoeing campout,
and a campout at Adventureland Park.
Al will ask the scouts for their input at the next few meetings. 6) New camping equipment
update Ken brought information on camping tables and LP stoves. The group agreed to purchase 2 camp stoves,
3 folding camp tables, an LP gas tree, and other miscellaneous equipment at a
total cost less than $200. This is
expected to complete our equipment needs for some time. 7) 2004 Philmont High
Adventure, Jul 25 Aug 3, 2004. Two
openings for scouts are still available.
The choice of trek will be made this fall when the troop makes its
next payment. NEW BUSINESS: 1) The 2003 Quality Unit
patches arrived last week and Al will distribute them at upcoming meetings. 2) There was no further
new business and the meeting was adjourned. NEXT PARENTS MEETING: Monday, July 7, 7:00 PM,
