Troop 1 Parents Meeting

Monday June 2, 2003

PRESENT:  Dave Berns, Ken Boss, Anne Cook, Jamie Cook, Al Degenhardt, Mary Euritt, Dana Jenson, Greg Kent, Chris Klaren, and Lisa Musgrave

OLD BUSINESS:

1) Review/approve previous meeting minutes – the minutes were approved.

2) Treasure's report – After the final summer camp payment, the troop has about $100 in the general fund, with another $1000 in the scout’s individual accounts.  Another $260 is due to the troop for summer camp payments, leaving the general fund with and expected balance of $360.

3) Review activities for last month:

3.a) Rank Advancements – Kyle Potter received his Star rank last month – Congratulations Kyle!  Several more scouts will be ready for Star in a few months.

3.b) Troop service - St. Ed’s Spring Carnival, May 14.  Several scouts manned the water balloon launch at the carnival.  It was reported that a wet and wild time was had by all.

3.c) Yard work fundraiser – Many of the Troop 1 scouts participated in a yard cleanup at Al’s on May 21.  Al was pleased with the effort and results, benefiting the yard and the troop treasury.  The scouts enjoyed the pyrotechnic effects and cookout following the hard work.  Thanks Al!

4) Review scheduled activities for current month:

4.a) Jamboree Contingent Troop Meeting at WSR June 11 – Scouts, and if possible a parent of the scouts, attending the 2005 National Jamboree should plan to attend the informational meeting at Winnebago Scout Reservation in Marble Rock, Iowa on June 11 at 6:00-8:30 PM.  Contact Ken Boss, Chris Klaren or Steve Murphy if you would like to carpool the one hour trip as they are planning to drive and will have room available.

4.b) Troops 1 and 144 Get-Together – The McFarlane Park Campout scheduled for June 13-15 has been scaled back due to a conflict with other notable activities during the weekend.  Instead, Al will get with Troop 144 to see if Sunday June 15 at 6:30 PM would work for them.  The purpose of this outing is to get the scouts and adults from the two troops together before they spend the week at summer camp together.  Activities discussed were volleyball and a cookout at Miller Park.

4.c) Pop can fundraiser June 18 & 21 – To raise money for needed camping equipment, scouts will distribute fliers in the Ridgeway – Kimball – Prospect area on Wednesday June 18 asking for donations of refundable bottles and cans.  The troop will then canvass the area on Saturday June 21 to pick up the containers and later take them to a redemption center.  Dana will also have a notice placed in the church bulletin.

4.d) Summer Camp June 29 - July 5. We are still on track for summer camp.  Al handed out medical forms that will need updating before the scouts and adults leave for camp.  Additional details will be forthcoming in the next several weeks.

5) Summer campouts & activities, July & August – This is still up in the air, but some of the activities mentioned include another paintball outing, a canoeing campout, and a campout at Adventureland Park.  Al will ask the scouts for their input at the next few meetings.

6) New camping equipment update – Ken brought information on camping tables and LP stoves.  The group agreed to purchase 2 camp stoves, 3 folding camp tables, an LP gas tree, and other miscellaneous equipment at a total cost less than $200.  This is expected to complete our equipment needs for some time.

7) 2004 Philmont High Adventure, Jul 25 – Aug 3, 2004.  Two openings for scouts are still available.  The choice of trek will be made this fall when the troop makes its next payment.

NEW BUSINESS:

1) The 2003 Quality Unit patches arrived last week and Al will distribute them at upcoming meetings.

2) There was no further new business and the meeting was adjourned.
