Troop 1 Parents Meeting

1) Meeting called to order (Chris Klaren)

2) Welcome and introduction of new members and guests. Parents Present: Chris Klaren, Chris Hoffman, Al Degenhardt, Steve Schmitt, Michelle Westphal, Faye Graham, Jon Beyer, Tim Cutsforth, Catherine Boesen, Steve Davis, Tom Randolph, Kirk Brownson, Ken Boss, Christy Benson, Dana Jensen, Steve Murphy

3) Previous meeting minutes approved        

4) Reports:                

·        Scoutmaster – 13 new scouts

·        Secretary - none

·        Treasurer – none (individual Scout account information available on request to Treasurer)

·        Outdoor/activities coordinator

·        Red Flannel Campout, Feb 11-13 – canceled due to warm weather

·        Flapjacker pancake breakfast, March 5 (Al D) 672 tickets sold. Turn in any additional tickets to Al. Thanks to Hy-Vee for allowing us to sell at their Crossroads store, and thanks to Craig Drewelow for making arrangements. Thanks to Scouts and adults who worked at pancake breakfast.

·        UNI Wellness Center lock-in, March 12-13 - postponed

·        Advancement coordinator

·        Advancement activities (Chris K) New Eagle Scout, Michael Berns, First & Second Class rank achieved (5), First Class rank achieve (1), 2nd Class rank achieved (1) Scout rank achieved (6), First Class rank achieved in First Year (6)

·        Lakeland district merit badge college, Clear Lake, Mar 5 (Steve M) Unable to attend due to lack of space. Arrangements for achievement of Citizenship and Nation Badge in progress pending arrangements for access to a federal facility.

·        Chaplain

·        Training coordinator Training meeting – March 19th, Denver, Iowa for Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster. All interested are encouraged to attend. Further details are available at Winnebego Boy Scout website.

·        Equipment coordinator

·        Storage shed rental, other storage options; 2nd trailer, etc.  (Steve D) $75.00 per month for rental space. Steve Davis will present preliminary proposal at April Parents’ meeting in anticipation of formal presentation to Parish Council.

·        Fundraising coordinator

·        Pancake breakfast at KC hall in April - (Steve M) All weekends for the remainder of the spring are filled.  Will check in summer or fall for fall dates.

·        Flapjackers pancake breakfast ticket sales (Al D, Craig D)

·        Pop can collection fundraiser update Feb 26, Apr 2, June 4 (Steve D) Ken Boss will check into getting sign made. Volunteers needed for April 2nd, 10:00 – 2:00, 2-hour shifts. Call Steve Davis if interested.

·        Membership coordinator

·        Webelos transition from Pack 25 (Al D) – 6 new Scouts

·        Webelos transition from Sacred Heart (Steve M) – 7 new Scouts

5) Old Business

·        Troop organization (Chris Klaren, Al Degenhardt) Rechartering in progress. Check website for description of troop leadership positions and job descriptions. New meeting site discussed. Buck’s Broken Antler & Fitzgerald’s are possibilities. Chris Klaren will investigate.

·        Boundary Waters, June 18-25 (Steve M) – 26 Scouts and adults committed. Possible merit badges include cooking, camping, fishing, canoeing. Arrangements for swim test are in progress. Outfitter is Pack N Sack Canoe.

·        Summer camp organization, July 10-16 (Steve B) 10 Scouts tentatively committed.

6) New Business

·        4th of July Fundraiser – Clean-up after 4th of July Fireworks, downtown Waterloo, 12:00 midnight – 2:00 a.m., Will need 12 volunteers, scouts and adults. Can raise $500.00.
