Troop 1 Parents Meeting

1) Meeting called to order (Chris Klaren)

2) Parents Present: Steve Murphy, Jim O’Connor, Steve Schmitt, Tom Randolph, Sr., Dana Jensen, Chris Klaren, Steve Davis

3) Previous meeting minutes approved                            

4) Reports:                

·        Scoutmaster - none

·        Secretary - none

·        Treasurer – Scout accounts - $3,700.00. Boundary Waters Account - $360.00, General Fund - $680.00. Revenue from 2 popcan collections is pending.

·        Outdoor/activities coordinator

·        Easter egg hunt setups: KC Hall, Mar 23 – 2 Scouts, 1 Adult; Kittrell School park, Mar 26 – 4 Scouts, 1 Adult (Dana J).

·        Set up chairs in church basement for Easter mass – 9 Scouts, 5 Adults(Dana J).

·        Easter Vigil Fire – Mar 26 – 5 Scouts, 3 Adults.

·        St. Ed’s Chair Take-down – 9 Scouts, 5 Adults.

·        Pop Can Drive, Apr 2, 5 Scouts, 6 Adults

·        Backbone State Park campout, Apr 9-10 - Great weather, everyone ate well and had a good time.  11 scouts and 4-5 adults attended.

·        Advancement coordinator

·        Advancement activities (Chris K). Aaron Boesen & Nick Cutsforth achieved rank of Scout; Nolan Graham achieved 1st Class; Dan Murphy completed Personal Management merit badge.

·        Order of the Arrow elections, Apr 2 – Representatives from Sac-N-Fox Lodge 108 attended the meeting and conducted the election for the Scouts eligible.

·        Citizenship and Nation, 12 Scouts working on merit badge

·        Chaplain

·        Ad Altare Dei retreat, St. Patrick’s, Apr 2 (Steve M) – 3 Scouts working on award

·        Training coordinator

·        Equipment coordinator

·        Storage shed proposal – Will wait until after May Parish Council election and make presentation to new Council at June or July meeting. Tentative proposal will include building large enough shed for Parish to have storage space in addition to Scout storage space.

·        Fundraising coordinator

·        Flapjackers pancake breakfast results (Al D) - Tabled

·        Pop can collection fundraiser update Feb 26 (approx. $360.00), Apr 2 (revenue pending), June 4 – next can collection. NEED VOLUNTEERS, 10:00 – 2:00, contact Steve Davis, 235-9209, spdav74@yahoo.com

·        4th of July Cleanup Downtown Waterloo (Steve M). Entire Scout Troop and parent volunteers needed midnight to 2:00 a.m. $500.00 of revenue is anticipated.

·        Membership coordinator

5) Old Business

·        Troop organization, recharter report (Chris Klaren, Al Degenhardt) – In progress, nearly completed, 41 Scouts, 19-21 Adults. Leadership positions needed: Committee Chair, Fundraising Coordinator, Website Coordinator, etc. Please see Troop Leadership Position and Activity info on website. Please let Chris Klaren know what position you would be willing to fill.

·        Boundary Waters update, June 18-25 (Steve M). Organizational meeting, Sunday, April 17th, or Monday, April 18th. Steve Murphy will e-mail date to participants or check website. Planning a short canoe trip in May in preparation for Boundary Waters trip .

·        Summer camp organization, July 10-16 (Steve B) – Check website for registration information.

6) New Business

·        Discussed ways to improve campout preparation and improve troop organization skills. Expectations will be discussed at next Parent Meeting.

7) Announcements

·        2005 Jamboree contingent shakedown campout, Apr 22-24, mandatory attendance for Scouts registered for the Jamboree

·        Next parents meeting Monday, May 2, 2005, 7:00 PM, Buck’s Broken Antler
