Troop 1 Parents Meeting

1) Call the meeting to order (Chair)

2) Present:  Jon Beyer, Steve Davis, Al Degenhardt, Dana Jenson, Chris Klaren, Steve Murphy

3) Approval of previous meeting minutes (Secretary)     

4) Reports:                

·        Scoutmaster

·        Secretary

·        Treasurer – Dana assures us the troop is solvent

·        Outdoor/activities coordinator

·        Troop sledding at Al’s wrap-up, Dec 11 – lots of fun, no one hit the tree at the bottom of the hill, some good pictures on the web site.

·        Santa’s workshop – Scouts helped move tables and boxes of presents for the St. Ed’s fundraiser before the troop meeting that same evening.

·        Scout gift exchange wrap-up, Dec 18 troop meeting – Scouts exchanged presents, with some presents making several stops before finding their final recipient.  Food & fun for all.

·        Church basement Christmas mass setup – Scouts & adults set up the basement for a funeral mass, then Christmas mass, and then returned the basement to its normal configuration.  The group decided that the troop will not be responsible for making arrangements for extra chairs for the mass setup.

·        Troop campout Jan 13-15 – troop will travel to WSR for a winter campout, and will attempt to qualify for the Red Flannel if the weather cooperates.

·        Advancement coordinator

·        Advancement activities – No awards were presented in December.

·        Communication merit badge, Tom Randall home over Christmas break – Tom Randall & Jim O’Connor led a group of 9 scouts through the merit badge requirements.

·        Merit Badge University, UNI, Feb 18, update – Scouts have prework, and they need to complete it before Feb 18 to earn their merit badge at UNI.  17 Scouts have registered, and Andy Mills and Jim O’Connor will provide adult leadership.

·        Chaplain

·        Ad Altare Dei update – this should be wrapped up in the next few months

·        Pope Pius XII update – Gabe Drewelow, Troop 1, Joy Klaren, Venturing Crew 2501 (St. Ed’s), and Joey Gallagher, Troop 2 , completed their requirements and will receive their awards at the Catholic Awards mass in Cedar Rapids on Jan 22.

·        Training coordinator

·        Equipment coordinator

·        Storage shed update – working on plans to present to Buildings & Grounds committee.

·        Fundraising coordinator

·        Pop can collection fundraisers report, Jan 7 -  this was one of the biggest pop can collections for the troop, well over $400.

·        Wreath sales update – Dana will get with Lisa to wrap this up.

·        Flapjacker pancake breakfast ticket sales – Al should have the tickets very soon to distribute to the Scouts for the March 4 event.

·        Membership coordinator – Crossover for St. Ed’s is scheduled for Feb 12.  6 Webelos II’s are expected to cross over from St. Ed’s, however there are no Webelos II’s this year at Sacred Heart or Blessed Sacrament.

5) Old Business

·        Troop committee elections in Feb06 – A group met after the meeting to propose candidates for the various open positions.

·        Summer camp 2006, Camp Phillips, July 2-8 – Dana Jenson agreed to coordinate registration and merit badge sign-up.

6) New Business

·        Troop website address change – the troop website has been moved to http://www.troop1waterloo.org to simplify administration and maintenance.

·        Scout Sunday, Feb 5 – Troop 1, Pack 25, and Venturing Crew 2501, all chartered through St. Ed’s, will celebrate Scout Sunday at the 9:00 AM mass.  Information will be emailed as arrangements are finalized.

7) Announcements

·        Next parents meeting Monday, February 6, 2006 at The Upper Deck, food available at 6:30, meeting starts at 7:00 PM

8) Adjournment

·        There was no further business and the meeting was adjourned.
