Troop 1 Parents Meeting

1) Meeting called to order by Steve Murphy

2) Present: Christine Benson, Ken Graham, Dana Jenson, Chris Klaren, Steve Murphy

3) Approval of previous meeting minutes - approved

4) Reports:                

·        Scoutmaster

·        Secretary

·        Treasurer – approximately $1000 in troop general fund and $3000 in Scout accounts.  Dana needs the names of the March popcan participants to distribute their shares of the profits.

·        Outdoor/activities coordinator

·        Easter service activities, April 12-16:  The troop set up and took down chairs for Easter mass at St. Ed’s, and managed the bonfire for Easter vigil.  They prepared eggs and helped with the Knights of Columbus Easter egg hunt.

·        Troop Campout at George Wyth State Park, Spring Camporee, April 28-30 May 6-7.  Due to the extreme weather conditions, the troop decided not to attend the camporee and moved the campout to the first weekend in May.  Information has been posted on the website.

·        Troop campout, June 2-4 – arrangements to be determined.

·        Summer camp 2006, Camp Phillips, July 2-8 – Al has been meeting with each of the Scouts for registration.

·        Advancement coordinator

·        Advancement activities – no report

·        Personal Fitness Merit Badge update – Jim O’Connor and Jon Beyer are leading about 15 Scouts through the Personal Fitness merit badge (Eagle required).

·        Chaplain

·        Training coordinator

·        Equipment coordinator

·        Storage shed update – Greg Kent has agreed to act as general contractor to build the storage shed, and Steve Davis will direct fundraising activities.

·        Fundraising coordinator

·        Pop can collection fundraisers report, April 22, Dragons & Jay Hawks staffed – although we are waiting to receive the check from the April can collection, it was noted that checks of $407 and $330 were received from the 2 previous collections.  Excellent ongoing fundraiser!  Thanks to the troop parents that provided their feedback to the St. Ed’s Booster Club, the troop will not be in competition with the boosters with pop can collections.

·        Pancake breakfast fundraiser for summer camp travel expenses, May 21, KC Hall – This fundraiser needs a coordinator.  Sign-up sheets to work at the breakfast will be at the next Scout meting, profits will be used to pay for gas and other travel expenses to Camp Phillips.

·        Parents are reminded to keep the weekend of Sturgis Falls open for our annual fundraiser for the Scoutmaster’s fund (usually a pretty good time).

·        Membership coordinator

·        Blessed Sacrament has reactivated their Cub Scout pack, currently have some Webelos I’s.  They expect to add one den per year, and would like a Den Chief from the troop next year.  They are looking for 4-5 Scouts to help work games at the school carnival on May 15.

5) Old Business                  

·        Draft of policy for borrowing troop equipment – should have for next month’s meeting.

6) New Business

·        Campership funds may be available from the Council St. George religious medal recipients.  We are not sure if those funds are available for attendance at out-of-council camps.

·         

7) Announcements

·        Free showing of Down and Derby, at Crossroads Theatre on May 6, 10:00 AM,

·        Next parents meeting Monday, June 5, 2006 at The Upper Deck, food available at 6:30, meeting starts at 7:00 PM
