Troop 1 Parents Meeting

1) Call the meeting to order by Steve Murphy

2) Present: Al Degenhardt, Dana Jenson, Chris Klaren, Francis McElroy, Steve Murphy, Michelle Westphal

3) Approval of previous meeting minutes - approved

4) Reports:                

·        Scoutmaster – It’s summertime and the Scouts will be wearing their Class B red shirts to the meetings.  Al proposed a Court of Honor at the first meeting after summer camp.  A cookout at St. Ed’s / Miller Park similar to past years is planned.

·        Secretary

·        Treasurer – account balance of $821 + $461 check to deposit

·        Outdoor/activities coordinator

·        Troop Campout at George Wyth State Park, May 6-7.  Fishing, whiffle ball, 6.2 mile hike for new Scouts and others wanting to participate, 15 Scouts and adults total attended, great campout.

·        Troop campout, McFarlane Park, LaPorte City, June 9-11 – rescheduled from previous weekend due to lack of 2-deep adult leadership.

·        Summer camp 2006, Camp Phillips, July 2-8 – troop has paid fees to the camp, still receiving payments from Scouts and adults.

·        Advancement coordinator

·        New Eagle Scout – Jake Demsky completed his Eagle Board of Review on May 16.  Congratulations Jake!

·        Advancement activities – 21 merit badges earned since beginning of year.  Francis McElroy will be the new Advancement Chairman.

·        The committee authorized the purchase of the latest update of TroopMaster software to keep records up to date.  Chris will purchase and coordinate installation.

·        Personal Fitness Merit Badge – continues through July

·        Chaplain

·        Training coordinator

·        Equipment coordinator

·        Steve Davis is soliciting contributions from parents of Troop 1 and Pack 25, as well as past benefactors of the trailer.  We appear to be ready to ask for concrete bids.

·        Fundraising coordinator

·        Pancake breakfast fundraiser at Knights of Columbus, Sunday, May 21 – the breakfast earned $461 for the summer camp traveling expenses.  Dana will pursue scheduling another pancake breakfast for November.

·        Pop can collection fundraiser, June 10, 10:00 – 2:00.  Ravens & Wolverines to staff.  Scouts will be transported from and back to the campout to help if needed.

·        Sturgis Falls adult fundraiser for Scoutmaster fund, June 24 – We will have 2 sessions each on Saturday and Sunday to staff that will pay the troop $565 (total).  This has been a good time for the adult participants in the past.  Sign-up information will be forthcoming.

·        Membership coordinator – Francis commented that the troop participation at Blessed Sacrament spring carnival was well done, and should result in increased crossover from Cub Scouts to Troop 1.

5) Old Business

·        A draft of a policy for borrowing troop equipment was presented by Chris and approved by the committee.  It will be revised as approved and published on the Adult Leaders’ web page.

6) New Business

·        Al indicated there is interest from a number of Scouts for the Cycling merit badge, and that he will be starting the first ride after the Personal Fitness merit badge is complete.  Those Scouts completing the Cycling merit badge will be invited to ride a day of RAGBRAI next summer.

7) Announcements

·        Trap House for Camp Ingawanis – Steve Murphy reported that the new trap house is complete and is a significant improvement for the shooting range.

·        Next parents meeting Monday, July 10, 2006 at The Upper Deck, food available at 7:30, meeting starts at 8:00 PM (NOTE THE LATER STARTING TIME)
