4) Reports:

·        Scoutmaster

·        Secretary

·        Treasurer – Through Nov 6, the troop balance is $13,478.51.  Of this, $8690.00 is for the storage shed fund, $3152.39 is Scout accounts, $369.44 is Scoutmaster fund, and $1266.68 is troop general fund.

·        Outdoor/activities coordinator

·        Fall Festival parking, Oct 8.  The parking activity went well, and we will probably do it again next year.

·        Troop Campout, Oct 13-15.  Very good campout even with the cold and wet weather.  Fishing and hiking were some of the weekend activities.

·        Trunk or Treat, Oct 28.  Our help was very much appreciated in keeping this a safe and enjoyable event.

·        Troop Campout, WSR, electronics weekend, Nov 17-19.  The activities cabin at WSR will be the troop’s destination for the weekend.

·        Troop Campout, wild game feed, Dec 1-3.  Planned to be held in Maple lodge.  The feast will feature duck fajitas, swan, deer, and either elk or caribou.

·        Advancement coordinator

·        Advancement activities.  A number of Scouts are ready for the Board of Review for rank advancement next week.

·        Merit Badge College, Nov 4.  18 Scouts attempted 36 merit badges, completing 28 of them during the day.  Well done!  Thank you to the leaders that coordinated the troop’s activities.  Requirements for incomplete merit badges in many cases can be finished by the scouts with counselors in the troop.

·        Merit badge books – The troop library is currently very low on merit badge books, and would appreciate any donations from Scouts and their families that have books that they no longer need.

·        Chaplain

·        Father-son retreat update.  Jim O’Connor is working with Mary Pedersen on the particulars.

·        Training coordinator

·        Equipment coordinator

·        Storage shed update.  The concrete needs to be in place this fall or the troop may lose a $1000 community grant.  Tentative plans were discussed to prepare the ground this weekend (Nov 11-12), and then pour concrete the following week.  Greg will initiate the activities after checking on manpower and equipment availability.  This will be an adult-only activity, scouts and children will not be allowed to help.

·        Propane tank “trees” – Steve M saw some trees during Wood Badge training that were much sturdier than the trees the troop uses.  He will get with the equipment coordinator to purchase several for the troop.

·        Fundraising coordinator

·        Pop can collection fundraiser.  The Oct 21 collection netted 25 bags of cans and 1600 bottles.  The next collection is scheduled for Sat., Nov 25 and is to be staffed by the Dragons and Jayhawks.

·        Popcorn sales update.  Sales sheets were collected Nov 5, and popcorn pickup is scheduled for the weekend of Nov 18.

·        Wreath sales update.

·        Membership coordinator

5) Old Business

·        Troop meeting locations discussion.  The New life Center is not available due to Youth Group meetings at the same time.  Steve is looking for other locations.

·        Boundary Waters trip update.  There is no price increase from the previous trip.  An early December meting will be scheduled for those interested.  Due to the physical demands of the trip, the group decided that 2nd year Scouts and younger not completing the 8th grade (at the time of the trip) must be accompanied by a parent or designated guardian willing to carry their weight in both personal and crew gear.  1st year Scouts will not be allowed to participate.  All Scouts attending must have earned the swimming merit badge before the trip.  The troop will be scheduling a week for summer camp during the summer.

·        Wood Badge training report (participants) -  deferred to next meeting

6) New Business

·        Campout attendance.  It was discussed that campout attendance has been somewhat low, mainly due to conflicts with sports, primarily with the older Scouts, 8th grade and above.  Their inability to participate makes it difficult to teach skills to the new scouts, and to develop leadership in the older scouts teaching them.  Steve M suggested some type of award, badge or recognition for attending 3 straight campouts, and he will be contacting the older scouts to try and get them involved.  Please bring any ideas you may have to the December’s parents meeting.

·        Troop meeting time.  In the interest of ending the troop meetings earlier n Sunday evenings, the group decided to change the meeting time from 7:15 PM to 6:45 PM effective Dec 10, the first meeting in December.

7) Announcements

·        Next parents meeting Monday, December 4, 2006 at AJ’s Eatery & Spirits (by Target), meeting starts at 7:30 PM.
