4) Reports:

·        Scoutmaster – the new meeting format is working well with the patrol format.  Patrols are conducting their meetings and presenting skits.

·        Secretary

·        Treasurer – Total $4,810.46 (general fund $1,301.15, Scoutmaster Fund $95.45, Shed Account $1,285.64, Scouts Accounts $2,128.22).  A question regarding the Scoutmaster fund was raised, as to whether we received the check for the Sturgis adult beverage pour.  Michelle will look into it.

·        Outdoor/activities coordinator

·        Fall Camporee, George Wyth, Sep 28-30.  Participants had a good time, and we received compliments on our Scout leadership.  10 Scouts and 8 Webelos attended.

·        WSR campout, Oct 19-21 – this campout was moved from 1 week previous to avoid a conflict with helping park cars at the St. Ed’s Fall Festival.

·        St. Ed’s Fall Festival, Oct 14 – Scouts will stake out parking areas on the football field and direct car parking.  A schedule will be developed.

·        Advancement coordinator

·        Presentation of Eagle Scout project – Nick Davis presented his project to plant trees at the Meyers Lake campground in Evansdale.  After some discussion, the project was approved.

·        Advancement activities – 9 merit badges were earned since the last Parent’s Meeting.

·        Chaplain – Drew Klein is the troop’s new Chaplain’s Aide

·        Training coordinator

·        Equipment coordinator

·        Storage shed – Signage, appreciation cookout update.  A 4’ x 8’ sign has been ordered, and a dedication cookout will be scheduled some time after the sign is up, and we will hold a Court of Honor at the same time.  Some interior lights may be added to eliminate dark spots in the garage when working with the trailer inside.

·        Fundraising coordinator

·        Pop can collection fundraiser, Oct 6 – notices were published in the church bulletin and Waterloo Courier recently.

·        Popcorn sales, update – sales started Sat., Sep 29.  Jamboree Scouts that made special arrangements will receive 60% of the total sales cost as profit to help offset their jamboree fees (note this is nonrefundable if the Scouts change their minds and cannot attend).  Jamboree Scouts should contact Al, the Sun Rivers popcorn colonel, to register for this special offer.  Non-jamboree troop sales will split the approx. 26% profits 70% to the Scout, and 30% to the troop.  Magazine subscriptions are also being sold, and those profits will also be split 70/30.

·        Wreath sales – order forms will be available at the next meeting.  Orders are to be turned in Nov 4, and wreaths picked up Nov 17.

·        Membership coordinator – The group of 5 Blessed Sacrament Webelos 2’s may go to another trop in their areas to strengthen that troop’s membership.  They have been reminded that if they do not choose that route, they are welcome to join Troop 1.  6 Webelos 2’s from St. Ed’s Pack 25 are expected to cross in February.

5) Old Business

·        Parents Meeting schedule – change to first Monday following Round Table (second Thursday of each month).  The meeting change was requested for a more timely exchange of information from district round table meetings.  After a brief discussion the group approved the change and the web site will reflect the change.

·        Merit Badge College, Nov 3, report – merit badge books are expected to be available to distribute at Sunday night’s meeting (Oct 7).  Scouts need to get their prework underway so that all requirements can be completed at merit badge college.  Scouts will be asked to bring their prework to St. Ed’s Thursday evening, Nov 1, at St. Ed’s school cafeteria so that copies can be made by Nov 3.  Parents are asked to please watch the Winnebago Council website for information on Merit Badge University and notify Jon Beyer when it becomes available.

·        High adventure activities, update on Sea Base – due to apparent increased popularity, it has been learned that groups need to sign up over a year in advance to participate.  The troop will pursue a June 2009 date so that Scouts wanting to do Philmont can also participate in Sea Base

·        High adventure activities, update on Philmont 2009 – we expect to learn the Philmont trek date in the next several weeks.  Past Council treks are typically scheduled for late-July and early August.

·        National Jamboree, July 2010 – the Sun Rivers troop is filling up.  Scouts need to sign up very soon if they want to camp with their fellow Troop 1 Scouts.  After this troop is full, scouts will be assigned to another contingent troop with the council, and they will camp in the near vicinity and will be able to hang out with their troop 1 buddies at jamboree.

6) New Business

·        TroopMaster software – annual registration for the DotNet is due in October, and it will be completed in the next few weeks.
