Troop 1 Parents Meeting

1) Call the meeting to order (Dana Jenson)

2) Attending: Angie & Rick Breuer; Kirk Brownson; Steve Davis; Al Degenhardt; Dana Jenson; Chris Klaren; Bill Ludwig; Jim O’Connor; Michelle Westphal

3) Previous meeting minutes approved

4) Reports:

·        Scoutmaster – Scouts are doing a fine job at the meetings.

·        Secretary

·        Treasurer – Total $6.637.37 (general fund $1,938.13, Scoutmaster Fund $655.10, Shed Account $1,285.64, Scout Accounts $2,781.45).

·        Outdoor/activities coordinator

·        St. Ed’s Fall Festival, Oct 14 – the weather did not cooperate, but the Scouts did!  Nice job by the troop.

·        New Hampton campout, Oct 20-21 – canceled due to lack of adult participation.

·        St. Ed’s Trunk or Treat, Oct 27, 4 youth (2 from the troop, 2 outside of the troop) and half a dozen or so adults helped with the festivities.  Dana received a nice message regarding the troop’s participation in this and other church functions.

·        National Airguard visit, Nov 9 – the large group had a great time, Webelos participated.  All Scouts were on their best behavior.

·        Wild Game Feed / Court of Honor, Nov 18 – Sunday 5:30 PM in the Church basement.  Families are asked to bring a salad or a dessert.  Scouts should wear their Class A uniform.

·        Electronics / Work Weekend campout, rescheduled to Dec 7-9 – will be held at Camp Ingawanis, more information will be available at upcoming troop meetings.

·        Advancement coordinator

·        New Eagle Scout – J.T. Kneeland, Oct 16, 2007 – Congratulations to J.T. on this great achievement!

·        Merit Badge College, Nov 3, report – 23 merit badges (4 Eagle required) were completed, the number of Scouts attending was not available.  Good job Scouts!

·        Advancement activities – 2 Life, 1 Star, and 3 Tenderfoot rank advancements were earned, in addition to the merit badges.

·        Chaplain – Jim is communicating opportunities to the Scouts to pursue religious awards, and is looking at unit awards for the troop.  An installation ceremony for new Chaplain’s Aids and other leadership positions is being looked at.

·        Training coordinator

·        Equipment coordinator

·        Storage shed – Signage, appreciation cookout update – a sign has been ordered, but will likely be delivered well after the cookout season has ended.  Discussion on having a dedication next March, perhaps to coincide with the Feast of St. Joseph (the carpenter) on March 19.

·        Fundraising coordinator

·        Pop can collection fundraiser, Oct 20 report, next collection Nov 24.  No report of expected income from October.  Will need lots of help for the November can collection the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  This was our largest 2006 can collection.

·        Popcorn sales – most of the Scouts are selling popcorn through the Jamboree.  Bridget Bunge is working through the delivery details for those selling through the troop.

·        Wreath sales – Cash and Carry wreaths are being sold after Nov 18 Sunday masses.  Wreath delivery for wreath orders will be Nov 26.  If anyone needs them sooner they should contact Arvella Kent.

·        Membership coordinator

·        Round Table Update – 1) Fire Safety was the theme of this month’s round table.  2) OA callout is beginning, the lodge would wants all elections completed before March.  3) The OA would like a youth rep to attend Round Table.  4) Arrow Corp 5 will be assigned a work project in Mark Twain National Forrest June 7-14.  More info should be available on the Winnebago Council web site.  5) Wilderness survival will be the theme of the next Round Table.

5) Old Business

·        High adventure activities, update on Sea Base 2009 – no update.

·        High adventure activities, update on Philmont 2009 – 8 Scouts (including potential alternates) and 6 adults (including 4 potential alternates) have expressed interest in the 12 person trek.  No date has been communicated yet.

·        National Jamboree, July 2010 – Boys are registering, the Sun Rivers district troop is nearly full.  The Council is looking for a Financial Chair (treasurer) to manage the income and expenses.

6) New Business

·        Wood Badge update – Jon Beyer Court of Honor, Oct 14.  Congratulations to Jon Beyer for completing his ticket and earning his first Wood Badge bead.  This award represents Jon’s strong commitment to improving Scouting for the troop and others.

7) Announcements

·        Mike Potter is expected to receive his Wood Badge bead at our Court of Honor Nov 18.  All Scouts need to be in attendance if at all possible.

·        Next parents meeting Monday, December 17, 2007 at AJ’s Eatery & Spirits (by Target), meeting starts at 7:00 PM  (NOTE THE CHANGE IN MEETING TIME FROM DECEMBER THROUGH FEBRUARY.)
