Troop 1 Parents Meeting

1) Meeting called to order by Jon Beyer

2) Attending: Jon Beyer; Angie Breuer; Al Degenhardt; Jackie Evans; Dana Jenson; Chris Klaren; Tim Klein; Francis McElroy; Guest: David Breuer

3) Previous meeting minutes – approved

4) Reports:

·         Scoutmaster – The new troop leadership is working well, and the Scouts are taking control of the meetings.  Assistant patrol leaders and patrol quartermasters are now in place.
- Volunteer recognition is crucial for continued success in the troop.  We need to make sure nominations for Timber of the Troop and District Award of Merit are submitted in December this year.

·         Secretary – no report

·         Treasurer- Total $8,709.20 (general fund $2,330.87, Scoutmaster Fund $655.10, Shed Account $1,285.64, Scout Accounts $4,437.59).

·         Outdoor/activities coordinator

·         Easter Week Activities:  Service hours for the Scouts for the following events have been recorded.  All of the events were well staffed with good participation.  The troop received some nice recognition for their service from the Knights of Columbus in their newsletter.

o       March 19 (Wed) - Fill Easter eggs with candy

o       March 22 - set up church basement for Easter mass

o       March 22 - KC Easter egg hunt

o       March 22 - Easter Vigil fire at St. Ed's

o       March 23 - reset chairs and tables in the church basement

·         Sun Rivers Recognition Dinner, UAW Hall, March 28 – 9 people represented Troop 1.  2 Eagle Scouts from the troop, Nick Jenson and Josh Kneeland, were recognized for their achievements.

·         Electronics / Youth Leader Training campout, Camp Ingawanis, March 29-30 – Good campout, the troop used 2 separate cabins, and the training worked out pretty well.  This training will be ongoing as new leaders are elected, and the training will likely be separated from future campouts.

·         OA Spring Fellowship, Camp Ingawanis, April 18-20 – 6 have signed up, 4 Scouts and 2 Adults.  Francis and Dana are coordinating.

·         Sun Rivers Spring Camporee, Antique Acres, Apr 25-27 – The camporee will have a farming theme.  The featured merit badge is Farm Mechanics.  The Scouts will decide at the next troop meeting if this will be a 1 or 2 night campout.

·         Troop campout, May 24-25 – location and itinerary to be determined

·         Summer camp update – 2 patrols have provided feedback, waiting for the other 2.

·         Advancement coordinator

·         Presentation of Eagle Scout project – David Breuer presented his project to plant trees in a northern section of Black Hawk Park near Finchford.  After some questions and discussion, the project was approved.

·         Advancement activities – 5 Eagle required merit badges and 2 Star rank advancements were earned since the last parents meeting.

·         Chaplain – several Scouts have expressed interest in the Chaplain’s Aide position.

·         Training coordinator

·         Equipment coordinator

·         The troop is looking at coolers, water coolers, and clear heavy duty tote boxes to replace worn out equipment.

·         Storage shed – Signage, appreciation cookout, update – the group had some discussion about incorporating the appreciation cookout with the troop’s annual court of honor held after summer camp.  July 13 is a tentative date for the combined event.

·         Fundraising coordinator

·         Pop can collection fundraiser – the March 29 collection was reportedly huge, and the next is scheduled for May 3.

·         Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast fundraiser - The Apr 20 date is no longer available, and the event will likely be rescheduled for May 18.

·         UNI Dome concessions, update – Francis is getting contact information, and will follow up for more information.

·         Membership coordinator

·         Round Table Update (Kirk Brownson)

5) Old Business

·         Troop rechartering update – Annual rechartering is complete, totaling $787.  The troop paid youth and active adult registration fees, but not Boy’s Life subscriptions.  There was some discussion regarding the definition of “active” youth and adults, and several people expressed interest in defining criteria before the 2009 rechartering.

·         Eagle Claw update – eligible Scouts will be contacted at the next meeting.

·         High adventure activities, update on Sea Base 2009 – We once again have a full crew after recruiting 1 youth and 1 adult.  Tim is currently looking into travel arrangements.

·         High adventure activities, update on Philmont 2009 – when it came time to commit with $100 registration fees, only 1 youth and 1 adult expressed interest.  The council is evaluating whether to cancel this second crew.  If it does continue, it will be as a council contingent crew.

·         National Jamboree, July 2010 – no changes since last month’s update.

6) New Business

·         No new business

7) Announcements

·         Next parents meeting Monday, May 12, 2008 at AJ’s Eatery & Spirits (by Target), meeting starts at 7:30 PM.

8) Adjournment – with no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned.
