Troop 1 Parents Meeting

1) Meeting called to order by Jon Beyer

2) Attending:  Jon Beyer; Michelle Boswell, Steve Davis; Jeff Finley; Ken Graham; Greg Kent; Chris Klaren; Tim Klein; Grant Weidner

3) Approval of previous meeting minutes – April minutes approved.

4) Reports:

·         Scoutmaster – no report

·         Secretary – no report

·         Treasurer

·         Treasury balance – $10,784.53 (General Fund $2549.79, Scoutmaster Fund $1423.13, Scout Accounts $6811.61).

·         Outdoor/activities coordinator

·         OA Spring Fellowship, April 17-19, Camp Ingawanis – a web link to the summer camp merit badge offerings will be placed on the troop web site.

·         Troop campout, April 24-26 – canceled due to insufficient adult leadership, 3 parents were needed, only 2 were available.

·         Troop bicycle ride, May 31 – an in-town ride on the local trails is planned, further information is on the web site.

·         Summer camp, June 21-27, Camp Ingawanis – no report

·         Campout schedule and logistics – discussion on adult and Scout leadership responsibilities.  The group decided the adults should be setting the camping schedule sufficiently far enough in advance to allow parents to make plans to participate, and the Scouts should determine locations and activities.  Once the locations have been determined, troop adults should be responsible for making reservations and troop trailer logistics.  Grant and Chris will work on the schedule at an upcoming meeting.  Grant and Jeff will work to get campout counts by the Sunday night before a weekend campout, starting in July.

·         Advancement coordinator

·         Advancement activities – no report

·         Chaplain – no report

·         Training coordinator

·         Several parents of new Scouts traveled to Camp Ingawanis for training, but the training was canceled with no prior notice.  Chris will contact the Council to provide feedback on the situation.

·         Youth protection training – this on-line course should be completed every 2 years by all registered adults in the troop.

·         Equipment coordinator

·         Fundraising coordinator

·         Pop can collection fundraiser, May 2 report, next scheduled May 30 – 30 bags and 1500 bottles were collected on the 2nd.  A schedule has been determined for the next year, and is on the web site.

·         Membership coordinator

·         2009 Rechartering report – Jon reported that approximately 34 Scouts were registered during the recent rechartering.  The fees totaled $958 for the troop.

·         Round Table Update – we need someone to attend Round Table each month, or at least pick up the Round Table packet from the scout office.

5) Old Business

·         Parent sign-up calendar, update – refer to discussion in Campout schedule and logistics topic

·         Boundary Waters, summer 2009, update – no report, but believe planning is well underway and on schedule.

·         High adventure activities, update on Sea Base 2009.  The crew leaves June 10 at 7:30 AM.  A meeting will be held Tues night June 9 at 7:00 PM to bring items to put into a common checked bag and to check all remaining paperwork.  Crew members should pack a lunch to take to the airport.  Tim still needs medical forms for a few crew members yet.  Total tripo costs are about $1001 per person, so far.

·         National Jamboree, July 2010, update

6) New Business

·         Sturgis Falls Beverage Pour, June 27-28 – is the troop going to participate?  After some discussion, the group decided we will participate again this year, and that the contract should be signed and returned to the Sturgis Falls committee.

·         Troop 1 Timber of the Troop awards – Greg Kent, Tim Klein, and Francis McElroy were honored with this award for their outstanding service to the troop.  Thank you gentlemen for the great work you do for our Scouts.

·         Personal Fitness merit badge – As it has been several years since it was last offered to the group, it was decided to offer it again summer through fall for Scouts that are interested.

·         Court of Honor – after some discussion, it was decided to find a Sunday afternoon/evening to hold a troop Court of Honor.

7) Announcements                             

·         Next parents meeting Monday, June 29, 2009 at AJ’s Eatery & Spirits (by Target), meeting starts at 7:30 PM. 

8) Adjournment – Upon having completed the evening’s business, the meeting was adjourned.
