3) Approval of previous meeting minutes – September minutes approved

4) Reports:

·         Scoutmaster – Jim covered some of the directions the troop will be taking in the near and mid-future:

·         Elections will be scheduled to be held in Jan and July so that elected Scouts do not bear the entire burden of holding office during the summer.

·         Troop uniforms – expect to have everyone with the green loops and green numerals by January.  We are looking at having the troop purchase them and hand them out before Christmas break.

·         The troop only has 5 complete (3-4 person) tents, the others are missing poles, have defective zippers, or have rips in the nylon.  Grant is researching new tents for the troop, and there was some discussion about buying some from the Council after Jamboree or working with Crawdaddy’s in Waverly to purchase new tents at discount possibly as part of the Jamboree purchase package.

·         Jake Dodge has been appointed as troop scribe.  Space on the web page has been identified for the scribe’s records.

·         Troop is making plans to attend Camp Many Point in Northern Minnesota the week of June 27 – July 3, their first week of camp.  This date allows Scouts to attend both summer camp and Jamboree if they choose to do so.

·         Secretary – no report

·         Treasurer

·         Treasury balance – $5,785.94 (General Fund $1,281.18, Scoutmaster Fund $1,339.01, Scout Accounts $3,165.75).  Balance does not include the $500 check from Sturgis Falls beverage pour that was just received.

·         Outdoor/activities coordinator

·         Labor Day flag set-out, Sep 7, report.  Several groups in the troop set flags out, for service credit of 30-90 minutes per group.  The unexpected stipend will be donated to a local charity.

·         Troop campout, Hickory Hills, Sep 26-27, report.  6 Scouts and 4 adults had fun biking, fishing, and working on rank advancement activities.

·         Scouting for Food – The troop is not participating as Pack 25 did not distribute the bags.

·         Fall Festival – All of the Fall Festival activities went well with good participation.  The troop received many “thank you’s” from the Fall Festival committees.

o       Church hall table setup, Sun., Oct 4

o       Set Up canopies, Sat., Oct 10

o       Coordinate parking, Sun., Oct 11

·         Haunted house visit, Oct 24.  Scouts are discussing a visit to one of the area haunted houses.  More details to be determined.

·         Troop campout, Nov 13-15.  This will be an electronics/work weekend campout at either Ingawanis or WSR.

·         Advancement coordinator

·         Advancement activities – Since the September Parents Meeting, Scouts have earned 2 Second Class  and 1 Star rank advancements, and 1 merit badge.

·         Merit Badge College, Nov 7, update.  17 Scouts have registered for 30 merit badges.  They need to complete their prework before Nov 7 so that they can finish their merit badges at Merit Badge College on Nov 7.  A short meeting is being scheduled 6:00-6:30 PM on Thursday, Nov 5, to collect the completed prework so it can be copied and given back to the Scouts the following Saturday morning.

·         Wabuha district merit badge college, Feb 20.  No information available yet.  Need an adult to coordinate.

·         Lakeland merit badge college, Mar 6.  No information available yet.  Need an adult to coordinate.

·         Twin Rivers merit badge college, Apr 10.  No information available yet.  Need an adult to coordinate.

·         Chaplain

·         Training coordinator

·         Available adult leader training at Nov 7 merit badge college:

o       Committee Specific Training

o       Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Training

·         Equipment coordinator

·         Tents – refer to discussion in Scoutmaster report.

·         A work date will be set for the troop trailer to repair shelves and possibly other equipment.

·         Fundraising coordinator

·         Pop can collection - September was a bin buster, yielding over $1,000 to be split between the Scouts and the troop general fund.  The next collection is scheduled for Oct 24.

·         New pop can coordinator needed – an adult volunteer is needed to continue this very profitable fundraiser for the troop and the Scouts.  Steve Davis will train the new coordinator.  Please contact Steve Davis, Jim Koch, Tom Kneeland, or Chris Klaren if you can help with this.

·         Council fall popcorn sales, update.  Tom reported there are a few Scouts selling popcorn through the troop.  The group agreed to let those Scouts keep all of the profits earned from their sales.  Most of the Jamboree Scouts are selling popcorn through Jamboree where they retain both the council and troop profits.

·         Wreath Sales – Greg and Arvella Kent are leading this fundraiser, and order sheets for the Scouts are expected soon.

·         UNI concessions – the season has started and the schedule is on the website.  Contact Francis to take advantage of this fundraising opportunity.

·         Membership coordinator

·         Pack 25 is not holding a Blue-Gold banquet this year, as there are no Webelos II Scouts to cross over.  There are 9 Webelos I Scouts that may be crossing over in 2 years.

·         Annual registration fees are increasing from $10 to $15 per year.  The last increase was 7 years ago.

·         Round Table Update

·         Tim Klein attending the October meeting to make a presentation on the troop’s Sea Base adventure.

5) Old Business

·         Campout logistics, status.  Permission slips are expected to be used for campouts in the near future.

·         Campsite and activities list, update.  Jeff is working on a list for campsites and activities.

·         National Jamboree, July 2010, update.  Due to insufficient registered council Jamboree Scouts, the council will share ½ of the 5th contingent troop with Scouts and leaders from Milwaukee.  As more attrition is normal and expected between now and Jamboree, interested Scouts should sign up on the waiting list if they are not already registered.

6) New Business

·         St. Ed’s Trunk or Treat – the troop has been asked to help with the activity that will be held after a 2:00 PM prayer service on Oct 24.  After group discussion, we agreed that we will help by serving hot apple cider and hot chocolate from the troop garage, but we will not help or be responsible for passage across the street from the church or with policing the parking lot for children and car traffic.

7) Announcements

·         Next parents meeting Monday, November 16, 2009 at AJ’s Eatery & Spirits (by Target), meeting starts at 7:30 PM.

8) Adjournment – Upon having completed the evening’s business, the meeting was adjourned.

·         “Iron Man” patch (Chris/Francis)

Respectfully Submitted,
