4) Reports:
·
Scoutmaster
·
The troop has picked out the tent to purchase, and
we believe 16 tents are needed for a large campout, 10 tents with 2 Scouts per tent, and another 6 tents with 1 adult per tent. Total cost is $1,948, and so far funds have
been donated for 5 tents. There was some
discussion for funding the remainder of the tents and options are being
explored. Targeting to have the tents
available for use at summer camp, and possibly much earlier if funding can be
resolved.
·
Permission slips will be used for the February and
following campouts. Completed permission
slips will need to be turned in the meeting before a campout to allow adequate
meal and logistics planning. Permission
slips will also be expanded to most other away-from-the-school troop
activities.
·
Pack 17 has not responded to two calls regarding
some of their Webelos potentially crossing over into
our troop.

anticipated.
·

Scouts and 9 adults. The troop served
donuts and coffee afterwards, and helped with the clean-up.
·

January parents meeting.
·
Order of
the Arrow: Elections are targeted to be
completed by April 1. A list of eligible
and conditionally eligible Troop 1 Scouts will be provided to the OA election
committee.
·
Camping
nights for advancement and merit badges:
The group discussed the use of high adventure camping nights for OA
eligibility and the fulfillment of Camping merit badge requirements. It was decided, consistent with OA
guidelines, that only one continuous week of summer camp would count towards OA
eligibility, but all nights camping on high adventure trips (Boundary Waters, Philmont, etc.) can be used for both. The reason being the relatively intense
camping experience on the high adventure trips compared to summer camp.

6) New Business
·
Tents
for Haiti earthquake survivors, possible service project: A parent of a former Troop 1 Scout recently
proposed that the troop collect donations of used and new tents to provide much
needed shelter in Haiti. Currently
logistics in Haiti are very difficult, complicating the actual distribution of
this type of aid. Jim O’Connor is
reportedly looking into some of the details.
·
Troop Recharter update: We
expect a number of changes in the roster, with a number of Scouts turning 18
and “aging out”.
·
Class AA
uniform - change from red to olive green t-shirt: the group discussed the merits of the
suggested change, and tabled further discussion to determine availability and
cost.
